Frequently asked questions.

What is your approach?

My background and training are in the science of behavior analysis, and I am a proponent of respectful and positive parenting. When I work with a family, I draw from my experience as a professional and parent. All of the strategies I recommend are evidence-based and have proven to be effective time and time again. My goal is to increase desired behavior and decrease challenging behavior, while supporting a positive and respectful relationship with your child. I do that by asking these questions:

  1. What are your concerns?

  2. Why is the challenging behavior happening? What is your child trying to communicate by doing that behavior?

  3. What should they do instead of that behavior? Do they already have that skill or do we need to teach it?

Once I know the answers to these questions, I can create a plan that helps you understand your child’s behavior and supports you in validating your child’s wants/needs. When I consult with a family, I design a plan that is detailed and specific to your individual family’s parenting style. The plan will help increase the desired behavior and reduce or eliminate the challenging behavior based on why it’s happening.

What types of behaviors do you address?

Here are some of the behaviors I have helped families address with their children:

  • Sleeping in the child’s own bed

  • Frequent call-outs or wake-ups after bedtime

  • Initial toilet training or toileting challenges

  • Bowel movement training

  • Increasing communication to reduce challenging behaviors

  • Tantrums/screaming

  • Aggression

  • Self-injury

  • Not listening

  • Rude/disrespectful talk

  • Negotiating

  • Elopement (i.e., running away/leaving without permission)

  • Food selectivity (i.e., picky eating)

  • Difficulty with morning, mealtime, or bedtime routines

  • Difficulty learning age-appropriate self-care skills

  • Preparing for a new baby/sibling

  • Difficult sibling interactions/fighting

  • Teaching structure and organizational skills for home and school success

  • Coping and self-regulation strategies

  • Advanced language and communication skills, perspective taking

Do you work with children with special needs?

Yes! I work with families with neurodiverse children and families with neurotypical children. Behavior analytic strategies can be effective for everyone!

How long will behavior change take?

That’s the million-dollar question! How long behavior change will take depends on how old the person is, how long they’ve been engaging in that behavior, and what is causing/maintaining the unwanted behavior.

Behavior change may take as little as a few hours, a few days, or a few weeks or months. However, using behavior analytic strategies can be highly effective.

I will be there to support you through the process every step of the way.
